Initial Coin Offerings are an innovative new approach to crowdfunding ideas. The first ICO was created by the Ethereum Project. They accepted bitcoin and promised to issue Ethereum to each investor; the token sale provided investors either 2,000 down to 1,337 tokens depending on their purchase date over a small period of time with early investors being rewarded with more. ICO’s have gone on to raise billions of dollars to fund many cryptocurrency projects and applications. Their regulation is actively being developed with each country taking their own stance. Many have the form of security offerings and require know your customer and anti-money laundering rules for compliance.
